The Four Rs: Repair, Replace, Re-Wrap, Re-Stock

June 17, 2026

Fast and efficient repairing, replacing, re-wrapping, and re-stocking are vital services for any business that ships freight. These services ensure that shipping disruptions are limited and your freight can keep to your delivery timetables.

Repair

Repairing is a service provided when shipping is disrupted due to damaged pallets. Damaged pallets are not only dangerous to transport for shipping personnel, but they will likely be rejected when they reach the delivery location. Pallets can be damaged during loading and unloading, while in transit, or at the warehouse. Types of damage that would require repair are a few broken slats, bent slats, or some water damage. Repair is most cost-effective when the damage level doesn’t exceed the cost of buying new pallets.

Replace

Replacing is a service provided when repairing pallets is not cost-effective or pallets are old enough that the risk of structural failure is high. The need to replace pallets, instead of repairing them, can be the result of irreparable damage, repair costs being higher than replacement costs, pallets that are at the end of their usability, or when pallets are at noticeable risk of failure. Replacing pallets is the ideal solution when repair costs start to add up.

Re-wrapping

Re-wrapping is a service provided to address pallet damage, shifted cargo, ripped wrapping, and to prepare freight for transport. Wrapping pallets helps to stabilize cargo during transport, protect cargo from the elements during loading and unloading, and protect it from superficial damage. Re-wrapping alone is sufficient if freight hasn’t shifted too much, when just the outer wrapping is affected and cargo is still stacked safely, and when pallets aren’t damaged or in need of replacement.

Re-stocking

Re-stocking is a service provided if cargo has been returned to the warehouse. Cargo may be returned to sender for a variety of reasons, ranging from damage to an incorrect product or quantity. When this happens, cargo either needs to be reworked to be shipped out again right away, or the cargo should be reworked to prepare for short-term storage, if cargo is being shipped out again relatively soon, or long-term storage, if cargo is meant to be held in the warehouse for a longer period of time. Same-day re-stocking means cargo is unwrapped, reshelved, and reentered into inventory management systems quickly and efficiently.
